Good Sammy Enterprises, a leading disability employer, is expanding its network of social enterprises by acquiring the Shire of Chittering’s Containers for Change operation. This addition supports the renowned WA organisation's vision to transform workplaces and society through disability employment.

Good Sammy Enterprises is recognised as one of Western Australia’s major partners in the Containers for Change initiative, managing more than 21 public and 500 private collection sites throughout WA and being awarded Large Refund Point Operator of the Year at the 2023 Change Maker Awards.

The container program, which motivates people to recycle drink containers in return for a 10-cent refund, has been instrumental in delivering Good Sammy Enterprises’ core purpose, to create employment opportunities for Western Australians with disability.

In addition to the 10-cent refund available to consumers, each container is worth a further 7 cents to the licensed recycler, so users of the service will be supporting the charitable activities of Good Sammy while they recycle.

The transition of the Containers for Change recycling service to Good Sammy will also involve expansion of the days that containers can be recycled from 3 days, currently Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, to 7-days a week. There will also be an opportunity for Good Sammy to place more accessible bins at key sites within the Shire.

Good Sammy Enterprises Chief Executive Officer, Kane Blackman, expressed gratitude towards the Shire of Chittering for their foundational work.

"The establishment of such a valuable community service by the Shire has been wonderful. By integrating this operation into our network, we aim to deliver a convenient, sustainable and reliable service to residents and businesses.

He added, "This initiative not only supports environmental sustainability but also opens up avenues for local employment of people with disability. We are keen to hear from people with disability seeking employment, and businesses wanting to improve their diversity and inclusion.”
