Good Sammy South Lake is a true hidden gem. Tucked away to the side of the Lakes Shopping Centre, you won’t spot it easily from North Lake Road. In fact, only locals and a handful of savvy op shoppers know it’s there. But its low-key vibe is what makes this op shop a jackpot for second-hand treasures.
Good Sammy South Lake stocks a wide selection of preloved fashion and wares, and finding the good stuff is a breeze because the store is so well-organised and just the right size. The staff are known for being super friendly, and they genuinely get a kick out of helping customers find those unique, must-have items. Velvet top hats? Check. Collectible shot glasses? Double check. They go above and beyond to make your day – and they have a lot of fun doing it too. You’ll often catch them laughing about something in store.
According to one Google reviewer, “This store has a great range of items and friendly staff who greet every customer on arrival. It’s so lovely to shop here and very easy to browse. I always find something.” This review could’ve been written by me because I had a very similar experience in this store. As soon as I walked in, the staff gave me a warm welcome, and I immediately got down to business sifting through the well-arranged racks. They’re colour-blocked and arranged by size, which made finding hidden gems easy as.
I uncovered an Isabel Marant denim dress, Karen Walker faux leather pants, a vintage Country Road tweed blazer and an ultra-soft cardigan by Witchery. And guess what? They weren’t even in the Gold Seal section. Nope, they were right there on the regular racks, and each piece cost me no more than $9 each…Yes, you read that right: an Isabel Marant dress for $9! And for some pure Australiana, I even found a collectible Vegemite jar and a Weetbix tin.
It’s no wonder some of the regulars here have found success flipping their finds online. Oh, and did I mention they have an awesome clearance rack and run regular in-store sales and offers? It’s a bargain paradise, my friends!
Jill, the manager of Good Sammy South Lake since 2016, is a firm believer in keeping prices fair for everyone, regardless of the label. She says, “We don’t really do the whole Gold Seal section thing. But that’s what keeps the locals coming back. We offer amazing branded clothing and homewares at prices that everyone can afford.” Jill leads a stellar team including six people with disability. She and her support staff take pride in seeing these employees develop their skills and feel like valued members of the community.
The team at Good Sammy South Lake doesn’t just sell affordable clothing and homewares, they’re all about giving back to the community as well. They frequently donate goods to the Lakes Centre for occasions like Easter, Christmas, Mother’s Day and Father's Day. Plus, they’re an authorised Containers for Change bag drop so while you’re browsing the store, you can drop off your drink containers to be recycled and refunded.
It’s time to uncover the hidden treasures at Good Sammy South Lake. Get ready for a shopping experience like no other, where affordability meets style, and friendly faces await you. Don’t miss out on this gem of a place.
