Things got pretty spooky in our Op Shops during October!

Our amazing employees, volunteers and Participants put their heads together to create some truly wicked Halloween-themed window displays at our stores in Willetton, Subiaco, Fremantle, Mount Lawley, Osborne Park and Balcatta.

Good Sammy Op Shops provide fantastic opportunities for our Participants and volunteers to develop their skills and confidence in a working environment and help them figure out what kind of work excites them, while being supported and trained by our experienced retail employees.

Our Balcatta store is lucky to have Jenna, who’s a bit of a jack of all trades within the store. Jenna has been working on her visual merchandising skills, sorting donations and pricing products, and has grown in confidence as these skills have developed. Jenna never misses an opportunity to put her creative talents to the test and was so excited when Halloween rolled around. Jenna says her experience at Good Sammy helped her grow, become independent, make friends and learn new skills.

Our Willetton store was all hands on deck to create a drop dead gorgeous display of outfits that the staff, Participants and volunteers made themselves from upcycled materials – including dresses made from a roll of caution tape, and a grey dress made from an old mosquito net which was ripped and no longer fit for purpose!

Over in Subiaco, our Assistant Manager Steffi and Participant Sarah couldn’t wait for October to arrive so they could start decorating. With the help of wonderful volunteer, Bronte, our Subiaco mannequins were looking spook-tacular!

Not only did our Mount Lawley store get creepy, but they also got kooky, mysterious and spooky! The “Addams Family” inspired window display was the brainchild of the store’s Assistant Manager, Jasmyn, who’s visual merchandising skills are a testament to how far she’s come. Jasmyn embraced the opportunity to share her creative skills and expertise with the community and wider team, and was excited to challenge herself and explore her creative side further.

Down in Fremantle, the window display was months in the making! Our amazing store manager, Charmaine, and Participants, Kaitlyn and Jess, collected and upcycled garments to create freakishly good costume creations.

Our Osborne Park staff really let their creative juices flow and put together a frighteningly colourful and fun display. Featuring Halloween costumes, pumpkins, skulls and spiders, their displays proved that Halloween can be scary and sustainable!
