Body

Good Sammy’s core mission is to create jobs and development opportunities for people with disability.

To do this, we need to operate out of safe and contemporary premises that are suitable both for staff and customers.

As we approach the end of lease for a retail store, we review whether the store:

  • Provides a safe environment for our employees and customers
  • Meets contemporary accessibility requirements
  • Is optimally located and operates sustainably

If we don’t conduct a review of this nature, we are doing a disservice to our community.

When the Morley and Rockingham stores came up for lease renewal recently, they didn’t meet our minimum requirements. As such, we have decided not to renew the lease at either location.

Many of our loyal customers know the challenges both these stores have faced, through closures due to high heat in summer, lack of accessible customer parking, and not being prominently located.

Our stores are so important to the work we do at Good Sammy, and we are committed to growing our retail network (our Ellenbrook store opened in May!) – but it is imperative that they are safe, accessible and sustainable.

We want to be really clear. The decision to close these stores is not based on any move to scale down our operations. We are actively seeking new retail opportunities – but it takes time to conduct due diligence on new opportunities, and it doesn’t make sense to lock ourselves into an extended lease at a location that we know isn’t fit for our purposes.

To extend our reach in the community, we have opened a Factory Outlet in Canning Vale, added late-night trading at some stores, started Sunday trading at most stores, and we have a presence at many Pop-Up Market events.

We have loved being part of the Morley and Rockingham communities, and we aim to be back servicing these areas again. Until then, we hope the community continues to support us.

Morley donations can be taken to our nearby stores in Malaga and Mount Lawley, or to our new store in Ellenbrook. Otherwise we have community collection points at Light Street Dianella, Yokine Reserve and Flinders Street Yokine.

Rockingham donations can be taken to nearby stores in Port Kennedy, Mandurah and Kwinana. Otherwise we have community collection points at Ellis Ave, Council Ave and Parkin Street.

We also offer free home collection services in both Morley and Rockingham.

Our final days of trade are:

  • Morley - Friday 5 August
  • Rockingham - Friday 30 September

If you have questions, please contact info@goodsammy.com.au and we will get back to you as soon as possible. If you are a landlord with properties in these areas, please also get in touch with us.
