GOOD Sammy’s newest shop in Ellenbrook aims to provide more jobs and training opportunities for locals with disability.

Good Sammy board members, staff, customers and special guests Swan Hills MLA Jessica Shaw and City of Swan councillors came together on May 27 for the grand opening which included a Welcome to Country and immersive traditional dance by Dennis Simmons.

Chief executive Kane Blackman said the store was designed and planned with accessibility in mind for an inclusive shopping experience.

“As with all our Good Sammy stores, the opening provides another opportunity to employ and develop people with disability, which is our core mission,” he said.

The store raises the bar with regards to inclusion and accessibility standards, and is well positioned to become a large disability employer in the City of Swan.

“Importantly, it is also a contemporary facility for us to train people for open market employment opportunities.”

Retail assistant Sharon Womersley started working with the not-for-profit in 1987 at the age of 16.

“I began at Good Sammy’s main headquarters and then worked at the original Perth store,” she said.

“The Good Sammy Academy is a great initiative to develop work skills for people with disability.

“If you have a disability, please come and work for us.

“We are fantastic, the people are fabulous and we have an amazing chief executive.”

All sales profits are reinvested back into job and development opportunities for people with disability.

The op shop, at 4 Fringed Way, is also in need of volunteers who receive on the job training, in-store discounts and volunteer awards.
