Taking care of yourself and your mental health is important. We use the term mental health everyday and sometimes it can be misunderstood and be thought of in a negative way. So, what does the term mental health actually mean?

Mental health can be used to describe a range of conditions, but according to the World Health Organisation, mental health is ‘a state of well-being in which every individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community’.

According to HeadsUp, ‘Ultimately, mental health is about being cognitively, emotionally and socially healthy - the way we think, feel and develop relationships - and not merely the absence of a mental health condition.

We love these explanations. It means we all need to look after our mental health.

A great way to look after your mental health is to be employed. Working with a mental health condition can help you with your recovery and improve your quality of life and wellbeing.
