Mentor Careers
Join us in building a better future for people with disability.
Good Sammy is a leader in creating employment opportunities for Western Australians with disability. To do this, we need kind, passionate people who can join us as mentors to support students and employees 1-on-1 as they grow their confidence, independence, and skills for the workplace.
Our mentors play an essential role in creating a safe, empowering, and welcoming learning environment for our curious students and employees.
Ways our mentors help people find meaningful employment.
Our mentors help people achieve their day-to-day work goals. Our mentors work with both Good Sammy employees (over 52% of our staff have a disability) and employees at external workplaces. Employment Support can temporary or an ongoing role.
Providing support for a person as they learn on-the-job skills in a work experience placement.
Empowering Good Sammy academy and traineeship students on their learning journey. As a student mentor, you act as a source of encouragement and positivity – helping them keep on top of their coursework, focused on their goals, and resilient in the face of challenges.
Everyone’s first job is nerve-wracking; but when the world isn’t set up for you to succeed – the reality for many people with disability – it can feel impossible.
Our mentors help people find and keep a job. This includes assisting in writing a resume and cover letters, identifying suitable job opportunities, and interview preparation. Once the person secures a job, you’ll work alongside them for as long as they need so they can get settled and thrive in their role.
Mentors build a person’s capacity to apply, obtain, and maintain employment activities by teaching key life and employment skills, such as:
- Money management
- Public transport training
- Interpersonal communication
- Building confidence and resilience
- Managing anxiety
