Good Sammy has 31 Op Shops across Western Australia that sell a range of high-quality used goods donated from the local community. Our Retail team is responsible for everything from greeting customers through to styling mannequins.

Tasks in a retail role can include:

  • processing sales through the till

We have seven Containers for Change drive-thru sites – Balcatta, Bibra Lake, Canning Vale, Jurien Bay, Lancelin, Midvale and Wanneroo.

When you work with our Containers for Change team, tasks can include:

  • welcoming and serving customers
  • processing and sorting donated goods
  • processing and sorting containers and bottles
  • traffic management

Our Head Office in Canning Vale has an on-site canteen that caters to hundreds of employees.

When you work in hospitality, tasks can include:

Our Property Care social enterprise provides services, including garden maintenance, to our business customers. With customers all over Perth, no day is ever the same.

Tasks can include:

  • Lawn mowing

  • Weeding and leaf litter removal

A warehousing role is a good fit for people who enjoy structure and process. We have two warehouses – one in Canning Vale and another in Wanneroo – that look after all Good Sammy’s donations.  

Tasks in a warehousing role can include:  

  • unloading donation trucks

  • forklift operations

Our Logistics and Transport team keep Good Sammy Enterprises moving! They are responsible for all donation pick-ups and deliveries – a very important task and one that will see your teamwork, planning, and time management skills grow.

Our Administration and Corporate Services team play a vital role in the smooth running of our organisation. They keep us connected and moving forward.

Are you curious to see what goes on behind-the-scenes at an online shop? Our Digital and Online Media team is responsible for everything to do with Good Sammy’s online store, from packing orders through to photography.

Frequently asked questions

We place every new Disability Employment employee with a Good Sammy Mentor, which is funded through your NDIS plan.  Our Mentors provide individual, on-the-job assistance to support your learning and get you used to the role.  

Yes, Good Sammy Enterprises is an NDIS Registered Provider (4-4GHG-2).  We are registered under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) to provide:

  • 0102 Assistance to access and maintain employment or higher education
  • 0106 Assistance in coordinating or managing life stages, transitions and supports
  • 0107 Daily personal activities
  • 0108 Assistance with travel or transport arrangements
  • 0117 Development of life skills
  • 0125 Participation in community, social and civic activities
  • 0133 Specialised supported employment
  • 0136 Group and centre based activities
  • Module 2A: Implementing behaviour support plans

You need to be on the NDIS to be eligible to receive funding for supports, like mentors. If you are not on the NDIS, you may need to pay for our support services up-front.   

To become a NDIS Participant, you must: 

  1. Have a permanent impairment that significantly affects your ability to take part in everyday activities; or have a developmental delay.
  2. Be aged less than 65 when you first apply to enter the NDIS.
  3. Live in Australia in an NDIS area on a specific date.
  4. Be an Australian citizen or hold a permanent visa or Protected Special Category visa.

Note: If you are applying for a job in our corporate office, you do not need to be a NDIS participant.  

You could be eligible for funding for your disability through an organisation separate from the NDIS. The funding pathways might include: 

  • Department of Communities: The Department of Communities operates a number of services to support Western Australians living with disability, their families and carers, through various programs, initiatives and strategies.  
  • Insurance Commission of Western Australia (ICWA): If your disability is the result of a motor vehicle accident, a claim could be made through ICWA. 
  • WorkCover WA: If your disability is the result of a workplace injury, a claim could be made through WorkCover WA.

Yes, we can help you find a job or work experience with an external provider (what we call ‘Open Employment’).   As with a job inside Good Sammy, we will assign you a Mentor who will join you at your place of work so you are not alone.  

On top of on-the-job help, a Mentor can also assist in:  

  • Helping you develop a resume and cover letter, identify job opportunities, fill out job applications, and prepare for interviews. 
  • Completing work-related clearances like police clearances and Working with Children’s Checks.  
  • Contacting potential employers or volunteer opportunities.  

Yes, every Good Sammy Disability Employment job is a paid one. Our Employment Pathway team will let you know how much you will be paid when you are assigned a role.  Your pay will go into your bank account or a nominated family member/guardian’s bank account.  

Please note that our Work Experience positions are unpaid.  

Our Employment Pathway team try to place you within a role you’ll love from the start, but sometimes it’s not the right fit.  

If this happens, our Employment Pathway team will talk through what it is about your job that you don’t like and either suggest changes – like working different hours or swapping your tasks – or look into placing you within another team.  

We are incredibly supportive of our employees leaving Good Sammy for a position at another company (what we call ‘Open Employment’). We are happy to help you transition from Good Sammy to your new workplace.  

If you’d like to bring a Mentor to your new role, we can arrange for one to join you. This will be funded through your NDIS plan. 

  • For NDIS participants who are employed and need extra support due to their disability.
  • Generally, these supports are greater than what may reasonably be provided by an employer.
  • Where people with disability are supported to identify opportunities and transition to employment within an open job market.
  • Also involves working with prospective employers to ensure the environment is well suited to the individual.
  • Open employment means a workplace not in an Australian Disability Enterprise (i.e. outside Good Sammy).
  • People participating in Open Employment may also be employed at Good Sammy Enterprises at the same time.

We tailor a job to match a person’s skills, interests, strengths and support needs. This includes various stages, including:

  • Stage 1 (Discovery) – up to 60 hours across 6 weeks
    Research process that engages person-centered practice, get to known individual and enable an employment profile.. Gather information. Undertake visits.
  • Stage 2 (Job Carving) – up to 60 hours across 6 weeks
    Use the information from discovery to create a job that suits skills, strengths and interests. Job search planning. Employer engagement. On the job training.
  • Stage 3 (Post Placement Support) – ongoing as required
    On-the-job supports following employment in the carved role, including review meetings with the participant and their employer.

Customised employment can occur within Good Sammy Enterprises or in another employer.

  • An unpaid arrangement designed to give a person an opportunity to observe and participate in the everyday activities of a workplace.
  • Designed to allow the person to build skills, see what tasks they are capable of doing, and help build experience towards employment.
  • Typically, the period of work experience will be 12 weeks or 100 hours.
  • Can occur in all Good Sammy Enterprises’ workplaces, including within social enterprises and corporate services.

Good Sammy does not provide advocacy services. Advocacy needs to be independent to make sure the person’s voice is heard and there are no conflicts of interest.

However, Good Sammy fully supports the important role of advocacy. Independent disability advocates can help people with disability, their families and carers to:

  • understand and stand up for their rights

  • access the supports and services they need

  • be included and involved in their community
