Good Sammy Belmont: A preloved picker’s paradise

Belmont Good Sammy shop front

Urban List Perth recently called Abernethy Road “an absolute goldmine for the thrifting elite” and it’s easy to see why with Good Sammy prominently placed on the Belmont strip.

Good Sammy Belmont attracts hordes of dedicated op shoppers every day of the week thanks to its variety of unique bric-a-brac items and preloved fashion for the whole family. The store specialises in Gold Seal clothing, with six long rails and an entire wall of casual and formal designer labels. Because of this, the store has become a firm favourite of Perth thrift-fluencers, with many striking gold within its walls. Widya from @sixthsenseforfashion has scored a Burberry jacket, a Moncler top and knee-high Stuart Weitzman boots from Good Sammy Belmont. The boots, which usually retail for $1,200, are Widya’s best find to date. Cherie, @the_thrift_seeker, is a big fan of the store’s selection of Gold Seal shoes and once scored a pair of Sol Sana suede boots for $25 (they retail for $350).

Cherie also loves trawling the hefty $2 clearance section at the back of the store. To the shoppers who get suspicious about crazy-low prices, let me assure you that these $2 gems are not to be overlooked. Belmont’s large clearance section became a permanent fixture in the store to help clear excess stock – and this store has A LOT of stock.

Store Manager Jody says, “Here at Belmont, we are fortunate to get such a large amount of good quality donations. We pride ourselves on our speedy processing, so customers can take advantage of anything new that comes through our doors. It keeps our regulars coming back.”

At Good Sammy Belmont, newly donated items are added to the racks and shelves multiple times a day. If you’re a veteran op shopper who loves the thrill of the hunt, then these jam-packed racks will really excite you. It really makes for a preloved picker’s paradise.

Collage of Good Sammy Belmont finds

During my time in the store, one man told me he’d found an original boxed Thunderbirds action figure at Good Sammy Belmont. It cost him $5. The same man said his daughter has also found vintage jewellery in the store. “You have to be able to recognise the diamond in the rough, and this takes time and patience,” he said.

Though the thrifting elite, fossickers and pickers might love how full the store is, Jody is also keen to hear how the store can enhance its offerings to the ad hoc op shopper. If you have any suggestions, the friendly Belmont team would love to hear them. After all, the more purchases that are made in store, the more vital funds are raised for West Australians living with disability.

Jody always tells customers to come into the store with an open mind.

“On any given day you may find that gem you didn’t know you wanted and needed in your life,” she says.

Jody suggests customers take a day to come come in and truly enjoy what op shopping is about – hunting for gems without a time limit.

If you don’t walk away with some preloved treasure from Good Sammy Belmont, you will likely still leave with a smile on your face. That was the case for me, anyway, when the kind man at the counter told me I looked nice. His compliment made my day.

Go ahead and plan your visit to Good Sammy Belmont today. And remember – no time limits!
