A great win for Good Thanks café!
We’re thrilled to announce the Good Thanks café at Kwinana Recquatic has won the Community Impact Award at the 2024 WA Aquatic Recreation Industry Awards!
The Good Thanks café opened in July 2023 with the support of the City of Kwinana. The café provides employment opportunities for people with disability who have found their calling in hospitality. Staff receive hands-on training in all aspects of running the cafe including how to make an amazing coffee.
In a media release, City of Kwinana Mayor Peter Feasey said, “Since July 2023, the Good Thanks café has been a beacon of inclusion in our community by creating meaningful employment opportunities for people living with a disability, using a social enterprise model championed by iconic Western Australian charity Good Sammy Enterprises.”
Good Sammy CEO Kane Blackman congratulated the City of Kwinana on its award successes and applauded their approach to social procurement, inclusion and community impact. “Good Thanks café is a social enterprise created by Good Sammy and extends the hospitality job opportunities and pathways it offers, in addition to its retail, logistics, recycling and property care enterprises,” he said.
“Given Western Australia has 100,000 people with disability of working age not in employment, it is case studies like this that show what is possible.”
