Employee and Volunteer of the Year crowned at Good Sammy Christmas Ball

There was plenty of fun and festive cheer at Good Sammy’s 2022 Christmas Ball, which was held on Saturday night.

Good Sammy employees, volunteers, support workers and family members came together to enjoy a Disney and Marvel-inspired evening, which also saw the crowning of Good Sammy’s 2022 Employee and Volunteer of the Year.

The night had something for everyone – tasty food and drinks, music and entertainment, cake stalls and plenty of room to chill out, including an art room. Spirits were high as everyone revelled in the festive atmosphere and celebrated another successful year for Good Sammy.

The highlight of the night was arguably the announcement of our Employee and Volunteer of the Year award winners.

Online Store and Retail Store Assistant Kayla Barker was named Employee of the Year, while Corazon Hall was named Volunteer of the Year.

Known for her beaming smile and bubbly personality, Kayla has been with Good Sammy since 2015 and has taken massive strides on her employment journey since then, particularly over the past 12 months.

Good Sammy Chief Executive Officer Kane Blackman presented Kayla with her Employee of the Year award and commended her on the extra responsibility she’s taken on in retail and in our Online Store.

“Whether it’s processing donations, mentoring and training new colleagues on the till and around the store, data entry, spotting diamonds in the rough for our Gold Seal range, modelling and uploading items to our Online Store or providing a first class customer service experience, Kayla’s grown her skills, independence and leadership attributes throughout 2022,” Mr Blackman said.

“She’s always the first person to offer to help someone if she knows how to do something they don’t, or if they simply just need a hand. She is the ultimate team player.”

Canning Vale canteen and Cannington store volunteer Corazon Hall was recognised for her kindness, consideration and selflessness, which saw her go above and beyond for Good Sammy earlier this year. When our canteen manager needed to take time off at short notice, Corazon happily stepped up and took the reins to ensure the canteen could stay open and continue to serve morning tea and lunch for our many employees at our Canning Vale HQ. To do this, Corazon more than doubled the number of days and hours she usually volunteers with Good Sammy.

In announcing Corazon’s Volunteer of the Year award win, Mr Blackman thanked her for all she does for Good Sammy. “(Corazon) has only been with Good Sammy as a volunteer since November 2021 but, in that short time, has shown herself to be a generous, caring, brave and committed volunteer and a true asset to Good Sammy,” he said.

“We are so privileged and humbled to have you as a volunteer, and I personally know how much our team members at Canning Vale and Cannington appreciate you.” Congratulations Kayla and Corazon!
