Good Sammy will receive its largest Lotterywest grant on record, with $2.9 million supporting the headquarters upgrade. The grant will enable Good Sammy to modernise its head office and recycling warehouse on Bannister Road to provide contemporary, accessible and inclusive facilities for all employees, and improved training and engagement areas for customers, students, families and visitors.

Highlights of the planned works include:

  • adopting universal design principles for connected and accessible workplaces.
  • creating new training and engagement spaces for people with disability to pursue learning and development opportunities focused on employment. This increases the capacity of the Good Sammy Academy to provide critical employment services to more people with disability.
  • delivering modern and independence-enabling ablution and changing areas that meet contemporary compliance and accessibility requirements.
  • creating one central, accessible and inclusive open-plan workplace that facilitates employee connection.
  • creating modern new meeting rooms for employees that support collaboration and have regard to the access and sensory needs of employee and customer cohorts.
  • modernising and improving accessibility in the employee canteen and hospitality training area.

The upgrade works will be the most extensive at the site since it was built. Lotterywest CEO Ralph Addis said Lotterywest’s $2.9 million grant will go towards improvements for Good Sammy’s headquarters.

“This grant aims to provide a platform for Good Sammy’s to continue their mission of caring for people living with a disability in WA, with development and job opportunities.

“We are proud to play a role in creating accessible and inclusive facilities for this open plan workplace, which will assist more than 700 staff, customers and students.”

Good Sammy Chief Executive Officer Kane Blackman paid tribute to Lotterywest for their generous support.

“This record funding from Lotterywest will enable Good Sammy to create a built environment that will enhance our ability to support and empower more people with disability well into the future,” Mr Blackman said.

“Our business has significantly grown in recent years to meet the increasing demand for employment and training services to support people with disability on their career journeys.

“The upgraded space will allow us to get more people with disability into employment by enabling multiple concurrent training sessions and employment meetings.

“On behalf of everyone at Good Sammy, I sincerely thank and extend our gratitude to Lotterywest for making this upgrade project possible. It is wonderful to see the Lotterywest Community Investment Framework deliver for the disability sector.”

Good Sammy will fund a portion of project costs to complement the generous funding provided by Lotterywest.

Works are to commence and be completed by pending dates.
