The Good Sammy team at our Canning Vale HQ was delighted to welcome Premier Mark McGowan and Member for Jandakot Yaz Mubarakai for a visit and site tour on Wednesday 7 December.

Good Sammy Chief Executive Officer Kane Blackman led the tour, detailing our diverse operations and disability employment opportunities at Canning Vale and beyond. The distinguished guests met our team members working in our retail, warehouse, logistics, recycling and hospitality social enterprises.

The visit was well received by the team as it shined a light on the contribution of people with disability in the workforce, and the opportunity to increase workforce participation.

Mr Blackman thanked Mr McGowan and Mr Mubarakai for their visit and interest in Good Sammy.

“It was a privilege to host the Premier and Mr Mubarakai and introduce them to members of our diverse and passionate workforce who were very keen to say g’day, have a chat and get a photo,” Mr Blackman said.

“They were both very engaged and interested to learn about the many jobs and pathways that Good Sammy was opening up for Western Australians with disability.

“The Premier and I spoke about the current tight labour market in Western Australia, the underrepresentation of people with disability in the workforce, and how this talented cohort can assist WA businesses struggling to fill vacancies. I also raised with the Premier the prospect of the State Government using its procurement processes to deliver disability employment outcomes when engaging businesses to deliver products and services to government entities.”

At the conclusion of the tour, Mr McGowan endorsed Good Sammy’s ‘Thriftmas’ challenge to the WA community to help reduce landfill.

“This Christmas, Good Sammy is encouraging everyone to be part of the circular economy. So to do your bit and support Good Sammy, please buy one ‘Thriftmas’ gift from Good Sammy,”

Mr McGowan added, “WA loves Good Sammy. It's an incredible organisation that provides employment opportunities and training for Western Australians living with disability.”
